I drew the blinds open at 0630hrs. The expansive hotel bedroom sash windows opened out a millpond sea, off the Cornish coast. The mood was different from yesterday’s, when we went sea swimming and mackerel fishing. Breakfast was subdued; each rider fidgeting with their own mental preparation.
First the support van departed, then the seven riders in a people carrier, from Penzance to Land’s End. The heatwave appears to have abated today: a maximum of 21c with a gentle tailwind. By this evening we should be in Exeter. So far, as event organiser, everything has run smoothly and I have managed to pre-empt or prevent any mishaps. I’m looking forward to being on the bike so I can unwind.
Keep turning those pedals!
