It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, which is a shame because I’ve done a lot!
After the Haworth Hobble I did the Vertical Rush stair climb race, and posted a respectable time. Then I went to Australia (Melbourne specifically) and enjoyed running in the sunshine through the city and along the coast. My self-led running tour of the amazing street art was a highlight. Within a few days of returning I was on the bike, cycling from London to Dover, then Calais to Ypres, then on to Kortrijk, taking in the cobbled climbs. Finay my group of cyclists watched the Tour of Flanders. On the Saturday night I was even approached to be in a new cycling racing team, but that was subject to team funding (and sponsors sobering up!) so I won’t say that’s a definite thing! After Flanders I was back in England for a few days before heading up to Edinburgh where I managed to get out into the countryside.
In addition to the above, I’ve been doing some careful weight management and final training (and now tapering) before the Virgin London Marathon in a week. I’m pretty much at race weight, injury-frew and running well. Not running amazingly, but well.
I blame Instagram for my silence – I finally capitulated at the start of this year and signed up (@geekinthehills) I have been amazed at how long it takes to get a single Insta post ready. Probably longer than a short blog post! And it left me thinking, I write this blog for myself, and appreciate each of my followers. Instagram on the other hand, feels like a popularity contest, with the right timing of post, bright colours and key tags getting the most likes. I guess I’ll continue with both for now, but I definitely enjoy the freedom of free-form text that this blog provides!
Keep racing and thanks for reading!
