How’s your January been? As the month draws to a close and the temperature drops, I hear many tales of people reaching the end of their ‘Dry January’ and gym attendance fades across the country.
For me, January started at Base Camp on My Aconcagua, Argentina. However, within a couple of days I was off the mountain and enjoying food and drink. I’ll admit it took me a couple of weeks to get my head back into training, and when I did I immediately overdid it and spent the next week with sore muscles!
This week however has seen me return to form: I’ve been gym-based, working on both strength and cardio. I even did my first swim of the year. I’m aiming to drop back down to race weight so I have a couple of kilos to lose. That means healthy eating and less unnecessary calories.
I have started to populate my 2015 calendar as well. The Wilmslow half marathon and Virgin Money London Marathon are a couple of my running events that I have signed up to. I have my eyes set on new mountain challenges, and I’m also working on a summer endurance challenge. It would also seem like a shame not to enter a triathlon or three…
Finally, I’m taking the progress I’ve made with my nutrition from 2014 and I’ll be honing my cooking skills to make more tasty, fast and nutritionally rich meals to fuel me through this year of adventures and challenges.
My new year’s resolution: to be faster, stronger and fitter than last year!
Keep challenging yourself
