Welcome back (after my two year hiatus from blogging!)

Today I’m on my way to Tromso via Bergen, ready for the Tromso Skyrace this Saturday. 58km with 4800 metres of ascent, on and off trail, with inclines in excess of 45% in places.

This has been my sole focus for training since my distinctly social London marathon pace. I’m training under the guidance of a new running coach who’s given me structure and direction. This is something which I would not have considered a few years ago, but I’m reaping the rewards. Whenever I’m in doubt, I repeat the mantra “trust the process” and sure enough I eventually see the benefits.

I’ve also been working on nutrition. Just a year ago I would have thought that would mean eating healthier or portion control, but my focus has been on maintaining adequate carbohydrate intake on long runs. I’ve managed train my stomach to handle up to 60 grams of carbs per hour.

Traveller Pro Tip:
On arrival at Bergen airport, to transit domestically you have to go through arrivals, collect your bags and then take it back upstairs to domestic departures to bag drop. (Valid August 2023 with Norwegian Airways)

Once I land, a quick shake-out run, lots of carbs and water, and then one day of rest before the big race! Stay tuned and hopefully I’ll do a race report!

Keep racing!
